I have made an air vent which automatically opens when the build in CO sensor notices that there is a too high level of carbon monoxide in the room/area. In the US alone, every day at least one person dies of carbon monoxide poisoning, so it is still a very big problem.

My unit can be built in a wall, when it senses to much CO it will give an alarm, a notification light will turn on and it will open so that fresh air can come in. (I realize that this small amount of fresh air would not save your life, but this is just a prototype and in further stages the unit could be connected to the extractor hood in the kitchen, air-conditioning units, automatic windows, garage ports, ... allowing more fresh air to come in.
